Currently there are more than 200 large scale smart grid enterprises in Changzhou forming what has been called a “Goose-shaped Structure”industrial chain. 

Smart Grid industry is specialized in producing High-voltage electrical products including power transmission, substations, power distribution and multiple special-use electrical equipment. The products involved in the whole process of power transmission and control and power grid construction facilities. The smart grid is an important equipment industry within the electric power development industry.

Changzhou’s Smart Grid industry is relatively developed and is one of the largest ultra-high power transmission and transformation equipment manufacturing bases in China.

It boasts a batch of leading back-bone enterprises like Changzhou Toshiba Transformer Co. Ltd., Changzhou XD Transformer Co. Ltd. Huapeng Group and Bori Power. And formed a complete industrial chain ranging from High and low voltage transformer and switch, the large capacity cable to High efficiency and energy saving electric power electronic device as well as testing technology. The market share of the transformer products made in Changzhou tops the list in China and the production accounts for 12% of that of the total in China.

In Changzhou, there are currently 200 large scale smart grid enterprises. Among them, 70 enterprises realized an output value of 100 million RMB and the number of Hi-tech enterprises reached 46, Hi-tech products above provincial-level reached 120. In the first 9 months of 2014, the output value of smart grid industry in Changzhou surpassed 85 billion RMB, an increase of 26.6% year-on-year.

Changzhou’s smart grid industry boasts high technical content. Some products have reached internationally advanced levels. The 800KV and 1000KV Extra High Voltage transformer made by Xidian growing trend of Smart Grid Equipment. The manufacturing technology of Ultra-high voltage cable accessories of Changzhou Amkor has also reached the world first-class. The high-speed passenger special gas insulated GIS switchgear made by Changzhou Pacific electric power equipment (group) co., LTD has filled in the domestic blank.

In terms of industrial layout, a batch of competitive core backbone enterprises in the fields of transformer, Power switch control device, wire and cable as well as insulation materials have emerged in Changzhou. And they have formed a developmental structure for the leading backbone enterprises promoting these supporting enterprises.

Relying on the existing industrial foundation, actively integrating resources, strengthening overall coordination. Accelerating the cultivation of smart grid fist products, building the smart grid brand, and promote the competitiveness of the smart grid industry.

Striving for 100 billion RMB output in 2015

As one of the Top 10 key industrial chains, the Smart Grid Industry has the great development potential.

In the next few years, Changzhou will spare no efforts to actively integrate resources and build smart grid famous brand so as to improve the competitiveness of Changzhou’s Smart Grid Industry.

Development is focused on the digestion and absorption of advanced foreign technology actively, improve the ability of R&D, design, manufacture and test. Strengthening competitive products, mainly including Special high-pressure, high-voltage electric products, new materials and New type of smart grid products as well as Special smart grid products which connects the industry of rail transit, new energy and electrical cars. Meanwhile, efforts would also be made to develop New energy access system, micro grid system and energy-saving new products represented by amorphous alloy transformer so as to accelerate the upgrading of the Traditional transmission and distribution industry.

The ultra-high pressure and ultra-high voltage power products, with high pressure, super-high pressure product of form a complete set of new materials, new type of smart grid products and rail transit, new energy and smart grid products form a complete set of electric vehicles, new type electric control class.

It is expected that by the year of 2015, the output value of large scale smart grid industry will reach 90 billion RMB and realize a year-on-year increase of 17%. And the target of realizing 100 billion RMB output value is no far!
